@UlrikeHahn @hrheingold Threads announces a feature a week that only journalists care much about, the latest being a “deck” interface. But yes, that is their central complaint. Sky still has quite a few notables who seem resolute in their dislike of Threads (and/or Meta). I like the fragmentation now. It illustrates the need for something better. Since it won’t be a top-down Twitter replacement, a “parallel” solution seems more plausible.

Instead, it alienated 90% of them with grievances and brow beatings about how they were pesky interlopers. BlueSky and Threads merely had to toss them a handful of candy, and promise them others, and it was like flipping a switch that sucked them out of here like runaway ShopVac. But I am convinced that many can be brought back.

This election should not be close. This election should not be close. The Right has spent 50 yrs pushing a myth of a “liberal media,” when they’ve owned or controlled most presses for decades. We’re paying the price for our negligence in allowing that to happen. How do we fix systemic disorders of this scale?

Their priorites are not the same as ours, and their observations and conclusions can take years to be exposed as completely billionaire fluffing horseshit. I respect a lot of tech writers, but others should be trusted about as much as ChatGPT. Which is to say, not much.

I assume most have converted to Threads, but since there is no way to know that except researching each profile, I can only assume.
We all love the potential of ActivityPub. I wish it had more time to evolve before Musk happened. That opened the door for Meta. Now it’s a crapshoot whether it evolves the way we’d like. We need services others will never offer.

Is that on their roadmap? And what about following social web accounts from Threads? Is there anything more happening there than aspiration, AFAYK?

Hamas monitored political activity, online posts, and apparently even love lives. Palestinians were stuck between an Israeli blockade and a repressive security force.

Bluesky Is Building The Decentralized Social Media Jack Dorsey Wants, Even If He Doesn’t Realize It
There was a bit of news in the world of decentralized social media over the past few weeks. It kicked off with the announcement that Jack Dorsey had left the board of Bluesky. This was followed by an interview Jack gave to Mike Solana where he explained his thinking on all of this. There was…

I think the next sea change of behavior will be when @Mastodon, #bluesky and @threads are bridged, and a Groups protocol matures. -

Besides the fact that nobody can afford a garage anymore, it’s also due to changes in patent law that congress approved that largely cripples small inventors with a “first to file” rule that makes it way too easy for big companies to basically make off with any good idea by patenting a defensible variant using their biggest advantage: lots of money to spend on lawyers.

Yes, that is all so promising and we all owe you all for the effortsYes, that is all so promising and we all owe you all for the efforts. I wish we could get to a point where the big funders (and there are many) recognize the need to put this whole project on steroids. With the stakes so high, we shouldn’t be talking about thousands, but rather, millions. And the money is out there. We have to somehow tell it the right story.

And money changes everything.

But only because I saw us in a race to capture journalists. That ship has sailed. But we can now pivot and let Threads lure them in, then contribute new tools to support them and everyone else.

And once it is fully integrated with the Open web, it becomes a massive river of traffic for bulk travel and “hailing” others, while decentralized tributaries and reservoirs based on ActivityPub, ATproto and others can plug into it around the world. The bigger they get, the less content and behavior control Threads/Meta will have.
